An Exciting English and Literature Week 2019
Written by: Aurelia Lee (4E4)
On the second last week of Term One, Zhenghua Secondary School held its annual English and Literature week. For the first day of the week, English teachers officially began the event by conducting a sharing in the hall. On Tuesday, the first activity that the whole school participated in was a Wordoku puzzle. To stand a chance to win prizes at the end of the week, students from all levels were tasked to complete the Wordoku, which was a Sudoku puzzle made up of letters.
The next day, five students stood in front of the school during morning assembly to share about poetry. Ewanne (4E1) and Haziq (4E4) performed the poem “Sick” by Shel Silverstein. Shuqi (3E2), Joshua (3E4) and Aurelia (4E4) shared their experience of participating in the Unity Young Writers’ Festival earlier this year.
Friday was the highlight of the week. An assembly programme was held, where students were quizzed English-related questions to win prizes. The sharing of poems written by the Secondary Three students was greeted with excited cheers from the audience. The last activity of the day was a game of Taboo, where students were invited on stage to play the game with Mr Leslie Tan and Miss Geraldine Lim as they tried hard to beat each other’s high scores.
To end off the programme, the students were given a chance to try their luck and turn the handle on the English and Literature Week Gacha Tikam-Tikam machine to obtain a prize. After the event, students were excited and reflected positively on the eventful week. We are looking forward to another week of fruitful and fun learning at the English and Literature Week 2020!
